Our Framily Story

 

The story of Druvor Hill began when an off-hand comment between two friends revealed a mutual interest in owning a vineyard, and quickly turned into a trip to Oregon to explore the viability of transforming that interest into reality.

Brian Steele

Growing up in Oregon, Brian Steele was surrounded by the burgeoning wine industry and saw it starting to assert itself on the worldwide stage. As he explored, researched, and sampled his way through many tasting rooms, bottles, and barrels, his appreciation for wine deepened and he discovered that some of the most unique and impactful wines were being produced in his own back yard. With family and friends still located in Oregon, he knew that his home state was the best place to cultivate his vision.

Nic Comstedt

Born in Sweden, Nic has traveled extensively around the world with family throughout his life. Early on, his father introduced him to the famed European wines and he developed a taste and appreciation for the unique history and tradition of each. When he moved to the United States, his introduction to Oregon wines began with Brian, and he quickly appreciated the style and approach that closely mirrored those of the Burgundian wines he had with his family.

Bill Steele

Brian’s father, Bill, has always had a green thumb and has managed large gardens wherever he lived. As Vineyard Manager, Bill now oversees the largest “garden” of his life. His approach is simple: put the vines in the best position to let them flourish. His minimalist approach to everything in the vineyard is balanced by leveraging the latest technologies, approaches, and industry best practices. He spends countless hours researching outside of the vineyard, as well as testing and experimenting within the property boundaries to uncover the most optimal approach to allow the vines to develop and thrive.

The reality is, with any labor of love, it takes a village. Without the support of our “framily” (friends and family) this dream would never have come to fruition. We are forever grateful for the cuts, stings, and achey backs endured to cultivate Druvor Hill into the pride of our framily.
